In the last century the leisure of the people changed a lot. Today sport is really important.
The concept with the parks next to the river is on that point of view a really good idea. There are long distances between the part and you can use both riverside as sport area.
The parks are also connection points for trains and buses.
They are a kind of buffer between both parts of the city.
The same situations happened in Vienna.
Vienna has one big river called Danube, which splits Vienna in to, two parts.
In 1988, the city decided two create an island. Its island connects both parts together!
Now the Danube Island and the new Danube is one of the famous recreation areas for the people of Vienna to do sport and enjoy the free time.
For the nature, the city used more than 1,8 million trees and shrubs on around 170 hectares. Today parts of the island are nature reserve areas.
The Island also connects the two city parts with two bridges into one.
